Install Android 4.3 OTA Update On Google Play Edition Of Samsung Galaxy S4

Samsung Galaxy S4

The latest Android version, i.e. the Android 4.3 has been announced and being pushed to even the Google Play version of the Samsung Galaxy S4 devices. It is being sent to the devices but not all the devices globally will receive it at the same time, and the Android 4.3 will be showing up for update in your device in the coming weeks.

For the OTA update of your Samsung Galaxy S4 to the latest Android 4.3 OS, you need to do the following steps:

Requirements for the Update:

  • Samsung Galaxy S4 with the Stock official Android Jelly Bean firmware, the Google Play Store one
  • TWRP or ClockworkMod custom ROM also can work in the update
  • The recovery-flashable OTA zip file for the Galaxy S4 – Download Link | Alternative link

Once the requirements are all ready, you can follow the below steps to update your device to the Android 4.3 OS version.

  • Once you have downloaded the zip file as given in the link above, you need to transfer it to any sub-folder in the file system of your device.
  • Now, you need to enter the device into the recovery mode after switching it off. For that, you need to do the following – Press and hold the Volume Up + Home + Power buttons.
  • Once you do the above step, your device would be in the flash recovery mode where you would be noticing an Android logo with a triangle. From here, you would be needing to hit the Volume Up & Power buttons to navigate through the recovery options.

Now is the time to flash the update if you have done all the above steps correctly. If you missed out of any step, you need to repeat and do it properly before going to the next step.

  • The method to hit the update depends on whether you are using the Stock recovery firmware or the Custom recovery firmware.
  • If it is a stock update, then choose Apply from the phone storage and then select the zip file of the update and then press the power key.
  • If it is a custom update, then use the method that is mentioned for installing the zip file.

There are two types of caches for the recovery updates and for these you need to do the different type of wipes – Simple wipe cache for stock recovery firmware, and the Dalvik cache wipe for the custom one.

Once the data is wiped, you need to simply reboot the device and select the option based on your device and the update to Android 4.3 would be done.

Note: Please understand that this tutorial from DroidDoc is written after testing it, but it doesn’t mean it would work perfectly on every device and you would be updating your device with your own risk, and we would not be responsible if there is any irreversible damage to the device.
