Top 5 Facts You Need To Know About Android

Before beginning the article, I would like to thank you for coming here. This is the first post here at droiddoc.com. Being a blog that focusses on Android and related news, there is no better way than beginning with an article about Android Facts. So let’s pop in ! Are you an Android enthusiast ? Then you’ll probably love this, because in this article, we are going to discuss about Top 5 Facts You Need To Know About Android !

1. The First Device To Release With Android OS Was The HTC Dream/G1 :

Yes, the first ever Android powered device was the HTC Dream [or G1, as known in some places]. The Smartphone was announced back in 2009, and was powered by Android 1.6 [Donut]. The HTC Dream had a 528 MHz processor with 192 MB of RAM [might sound funny today].

2. Android Was First Developed By Andy Rubin :

Android was a project that was developed by Android Inc. and Andy Rubin was the co-founder of Android Inc. and the man behind Android.

Android was later adopted by Google in 2005 for a sum of 50 million Dollars and appointed Andy to continue with the project. Andy was the head of Android, until recently, when he was replaced by the head of Google Chrome, Sundar Pichai.

3. There Are Around 900 Million Active Android Devices Out There :

Well……..Uh……… this is not the population of any country but the number of active Android devices out there. Yes, from the statistics provided at the Google i/o 2013, there are 900+ million active android devices, which is literally a huge number.

4. Majority Of Android Users Still Use Android 2.3 Gingerbread :

There has been a lot of software updates for Android since they launched gingerbread. And lastly, we have reached on Android 4.2.2 Jelly Bean. However, still around 26% of Android users run their devices on Android version 2.3 gingerbread.

The major reason for users not able to upgrade their Android device to the latest versions of Android is because of hardware incapability.

5. First Android Game To Release In The App Store Was The Remake Of The Popular Game “Snake” :

Well, we all remember playing the old-fashioned Snake game on Nokia devices [when Nokia was still popular]. The first Android application ever released was a remake of the popular game Snake.

The Google Play Store has around 800,00+ apps available currently, and is expected to cross the 1 million mark pretty quickly [Quicker Than iOS probably].

Well, That’s All Folks !

Android is growing rapidly in every means. Whether it be the number of active users, or the number of applications available in the Google Play Store.

What makes Android the favorite choice of buyers is the large arena of devices to choose from, and the availability of applications in all genre’s.
